'Electric Music for the Mind and Body' by Country Joe & the Fish - Wed, Aug. 2, 9pm EDT

"Album Night's" celebration of the 50th anniversary of "The Summer of Love" continues with Electric Music for The Mind and Body by Country Joe & the Fish. Released in May 1967, this album helped lay the groundwork for the magical summer that developed in San Francisco that year.  The music strives not to conform to the mainstream 'pop' of the day and is accompanied by lyrics bathed in drug references and political protest.  The style of this wholly psychedelic music is without any restriction of form or structure. This freedom was certainly a concept that was embraced by the masses who flooded S.F. that legendary summer of '67.  Although this album was recorded in just three days its impact is still felt 50 years later.  So let's give a listen to this groundbreaking debut album from Country Joe & the Fish and experience one of the most pivotal albums of those tumultuous times.

Joe McDonald: vocals, harmony vocals, rhythm guitar, harmonica, tambourine, bells
Barry Melton: vocals, lead guitar
David Cohen: rhythm guitar, organ, lead guitar
Bruce Barthol: bass, harmonica
Gary "Chicken" Hirsh: drums, background sounds
